Shakertown® siding panels meet ICC, BOCA, ICBO, SBCCI and HUD code specifications. The panels are composed of genuine Western Red Cedar siding bonded with exterior waterproof adhesives to 5/16" exterior grade plywood. The bonding method of full surface gluing under pressure meets the weather test and other requirements for exterior plywood as specified under U.S. PS 1-95.
Shakertown's natural, untreated shingle siding material provides a Class II or Class B Flame Spread Rating in accordance with ASTM E-84. Fire-retardant treated Shakertown siding panels will provide a Class I or Class A Flame Spread Rating. The Class B rating of natural untreated Shakertown panels allows applications in areas such as office building hallways. The fire retardant treatment allows application of shingle panels on surfaces of noncombustible structures.
The ASTM E-84 test method is a 25-foot tunnel test that is widely used to evaluate the flame-spread performance of building materials in relation to the performance of a noncombustible surface (flame spread index of 0) and Red Oak (flame spread index of 100). Ratings are expressed as ratios between these limits. This is the test standard equivalent of UBC No. 8-1, UL No. 723, ANSI No. 2.5 and NFPA No. 255.
Rating designations are based on flame-spread ratings of Class I or Class A (0-25 flame spread), Class II or Class B (26-75), and Class III or Class C (76-225).
