FIRE-RESISTIVE CONSTRUCTION

one-hour fire wall

Shakertown® siding panels meet BOCA, ICBO, SBCCI and HUD code specifications and qualify for a one-hour fire resistive wall assembly. The panels are composed of genuine Western Red Cedar siding bonded with exterior adhesives to 5/16" exterior grade plywood. The bonding method of full surface gluing under pressure meets the weather test and other requirements for exterior plywood as specified under U.S. PS 1-95.

Application of the Shakertown plywood-backed siding panels may be used as an alternate wall covering to that required for the one-hour fire-resistive wall assembly of exterior or interior walls specified in item 18-1.1 of Table 7-B of the Uniform Building Code.

Shakertown siding panels are applied over 1/2" (12.7mm) gypsum sheathing on 2"x4" (51mm by 102mm) wood studs at 16" (406mm) on center, interior surface treatment as required for one-hour-rated exterior or interior 2"x4" (51mm by 102mm) wood and partitions. Gypsum sheathing is nailed with 1-3/4" (44.5mm) by No. 11 gage by 7/16"(11.1mm) head galvanized nails at 8" (203mm) on center. Siding is fastened with galvanized nails to penetrate studs or nailable sheathing 5/8".1

Wood structural panels may be installed between the fire protection and the wood studs on either the interior or exterior side of the wood-frame assembly, provided the length of the fasteners used to attach the fire protection are increased by an amount at least equal to the thickness of the wood structural panel.2
