Shakertown's Craftsman Panels were featured on the Sunday, October 10, episode of ABC's Emmy-nominated reality home improvement program, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The popular television show finds families with homes in need of a drastic makeover and then miraculously completes it with its design team and an army of help in just seven short days.

The home featured in this episode belongs to a Santa Rosa, Calif., family that includes a young girl who has polymorphic light eruption and is allergic to the sun. During the build, which took place between July 8 and 15, the home was expanded from 1,200 to 2,200 square feet and new features were added to help bring the outdoors inside. Shakertown provided cedar siding for the entire home.

Ease and speed of installation are crucial on a project like this, and the staff at "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" contacted Shakertown to provide a solution that fit their needs. Just one person using a pneumatic nailer can install Shakertown's Craftsman 1-Course Cedar Panels up to six times faster than individual shingles. Manufactured from Western Red Cedar, the Craftsman Panel features concealed nailing and over-locking end joints for a seamless finish. More importantly, less than five percent of the Craftsman Panel goes to waste when installed around doors, windows, gables and tops of walls. A standard three-course panel typically could waste up to 20 percent of its material for the same installation.

Craftsman panels are manufactured eight-feet long and available with a choice of 7-, 14- and 4-1/2-inch exposures. Panels are available in natural, primed white, or prefinished with a semi-transparent oil stain in Pasadena Green, Beach Grey, Redwood or Natural Beige.
